A young McCook man has committed suicide after fleeing from authorities.
The Nebraska State Patrol reports 24-year-old Cody Lienemann was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. A .22 caliber handgun was recovered at the scene.
A medical helicopter flew Lienemann to McCook Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to the patrol, a trooper attempted to stop Lienemann for speeding late Sunday night at the Highway 6/34 Junction near Culbertson in Hitchcock County, but Lienemann fled.
The pursuit lasted a little under 20 minutes, traveling back roads in and around Culbertson. It ended when Lienemann abandoned his vehicle at the intersection of Colorado and Warsaw Streets in Culbertson and fled on foot.
The search for Lienemann led to a camper at 808 Wyoming Street in Culbertson, where authorities found Lienemann early Sunday morning.
The Nebraska State Patrol was assisted by the Hitchcock County Sheriff’s Office.
A grand jury will be convened to investigate the death in accordance to Nebraska law.
