More detail and an identification have been released in the death of a rural Norfolk man who died after his all-terrain vehicle fell through ice on a pond near Norfolk.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim as 57-year-old Randall Simpson of rural Norfolk.
The office reports a rescue crew called to the scene late Saturday afternoon discovered the ATV submerged. Members pulled Simpson from the water. He was taken to Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk where he was pronounced dead. An earlier report incorrectly stated he died after being taken to an Omaha hospital.
The sheriff’s office says Simpson was operating the ATV with a snow plow when it broke through the ice on the pond. He could not loosen the seat belt to escape.
