A 61-year-old Omaha man has been sentenced to five months in federal prison, three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay restitution for Medicaid fraud.
Both the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Nebraska Attorney General’s office report Clements Akara will also have to perform 100 hours of community service.
According to authorities, Akara confessed to submitting 76 false claims through his business, Statewide Medical Equipment, to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Medicaid Division totaling $65,911.
Akara began filing the false claims in 2004 for the purchase of medical equipment, primarily nebulizers, which he had not provided to anyone. The submissions were made through 2010.
The Medicaid Fraud and Patient Abuse Unit of the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office investigated the case.
