Heavy snow has combined with high winds to create hazardous driving conditions through nearly all of Nebraska, prompting the closing of I-80 in the heart of the state.
The Nebraska State Patrol reports dangerous driving conditions throughout the state.
The Nebraska Department of Roads has closed a portion of I-80, from Elm Creek to Utica. The winter snow storm continues to dump large amounts of snow on central Nebraska. Gusts exceeding 35 mph have made visibility very poor. The interstate closing affects Kearney, Grand Island, Aurora, and York; cities just to the west of Lincoln.
NDOR reports more and more roads are becoming impassable in Nebraska.
NDOR pulled its crews from the Elwood area due to whiteout conditions.
Earlier, NSP issued a warning to drivers, stating dangerous driving conditions exist throughout Nebraska. NSP says travel is not recommended until the storm passes.
