United States Sen. Deb Fischer endorses Florida Senator Marco Rubio for President.
“Well, I’m just excited this morning to announce that I am endorsing Marco Rubio for president and I look forward to campaigning for him and working for him throughout this campaign,” Fischer tells Nebraska Radio Network in a telephone interview from Washington, D.C.
Fischer, a Republican, says she believes the party has a strong number of candidates. But, she says Rubio is the candidate who can move the country forward.
“I’ve always been impressed with Marco Rubio and I know the people of Nebraska have been impressed with him, too,” Fischer says. “He’s made a couple of trips to the state of Nebraska. I’ve seen how he connects with Nebraskans. He is a person who talks about vision. He talks about the issues. He talks about his solutions for this country and how he wants to move the country forward.”
Fischer had been hesitant to endorse a candidate in the crowded Republican field, but says Rubio stands out.
“I think the Republicans have a great slate of candidates. Many of them are my friends. They are good people. They have good ideas, but I’m supporting Marco, because I believe that he’s the leader that we need and it’s really because of his strength on national security,” according to Fischer.
Fischer serves of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and is chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Emerging Threats.
Fischer’s endorsement comes on the eve of the New Hampshire primary and a week after Rubio finished a strong third in the Iowa caucuses.
