Three people are dead, one through an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, as an 12-hour standoff in west Omaha ended violently.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reports 45-year-old Kenneth Clark apparently killed himself after killing two men who had come to the house to help his girlfriend move out.
The woman was released safely earlier in the standoff.
Deputies had given Clark until 10 o’clock last night to surrender. When the deadline passed, deputies fired tear gas into the house. Soon afterward, authorities say they heard a gunshot.
Deputies rushed into the house only to find Clark dead in an upstairs bedroom and two other bodies, one on the first floor, the second in the basement.
Authorities say the two were brothers who had come to the house to help their sister gather her belongings and move out. She was ending her relationship with Clark.
During the standoff, authorities told neighbors to stay inside and lock their doors.
Authorities say it appeared negotiations might prove successful, but eventually came to an impasse with Clark refusing to come out of the house.
The incident took place in an unincorporated section just west of Omaha.
