LB 643, the Medical Cannabis Bill has support from those who suffer from a variety of ailments ranging from epilepsy to cancer. Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson is joining those opposed to the bill.
Peterson says, “The cannabis oil that is being proposed right now needs further medical study.”
Peterson says he is not alone. He says the American Epilepsy Society recently sent a letter to Nebraska lawmakers asking them to reconsider the bill until more research is done. He says the American Academy of Neurology, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association agree with their findings.
Peterson says, “I know this is a big emotional appeal. The thing that concerns me the most is if you look at a letter from the American Epilepsy Society, what they are seeing in Colorado is actually harm. It is one thing if people were just fooled by the oil and gave it to their children and nothing happened but that letter recognizes there can be potential harm caused.”
