More than 2,000 participants will “Trek Up the Tower” Saturday morning in Omaha. This is the Midwest’s premier vertical challenge race as the First National Bank Tower at 16th and Dodge Street.
Senior Director of Public Relations Kevin Langin says they will get quite a workout. They will climb 870 steps to the top of the 40 story tower. Climbers from 13 states and all fitness levels are taking part. He says the youngest climber is 18 and the oldest is 82 years old.
Real life heroes will kick the event off at 6:50 a.m. Langin says, “That has been a great tradition of this event and is something inspiring for everyone participating. This year we have firefighters from six area communities that will kick off the event by climbing the stairs themselves in full gear. I think what is even more impressive is that most finish in an eight to fifteen minute time frame.”
Proceeds from the event benefit WELLCOM, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Midwest employers create and support a culture of well-being and wellness.
