Nebraska football coach Mike Riley has added for Husker standout John Parrella to his staff as defensive line coach.
Parrella is a Grand Island, Nebraska, native and was an All-Big Eight defensive tackle for the Huskers before playing 12 seasons in the NFL. He spent the past two seasons as the defensive line coach at Northern Michigan University.
“We are proud to bring John Parrella home to Nebraska as our defensive line coach. John will bring great energy and expertise to our defensive staff”, said Riley. ” He knows what it means to wear a Blackshirt and has the personality to connect with his players and prospective student-athletes.”
Nebraska has also hired Billy Devaney as Executive Director of Player Personnel and Special Assistant to the Head Coach. Devaney has more than three decades of experience in the National Football League in administrative and player personnel roles. He served as the general manager of the St. Louis Rams from 2008 to 2011, and was most recently a pro personnel scout for the Atlanta Falcons.
In his role with the Huskers, Devaney will work with Riley to develop, implement and oversee a comprehensive football player personnel program. Devaney will head up the process of identifying prospective student-athletes, allocation of scholarship offers and assist the head coach with roster management. Devaney will directly oversee the Huskers’ player personnel and recruiting staffs.
