The countdown is on for Saturday’s Democratic Caucus in Nebraska. Maureen Monaghan is the Vice-Chair of the Nebraska Democratic Party and says if you are eligible to vote and a registered Nebraska Democrat, you can take part.
Monaghan says, “Caucus is really easy. It is basically a meeting but it is a time specific meeting. You have to show up on time. In Douglas County, our Caucus starts at 10 a.m. and the registration starts at 8 a.m. so the earlier you get there the better you will avoid lines. We do have to make sure you are a registered Democrat in Nebraska in your legislative district.” The Caucus cannot start until everyone in line is inside the meeting location. That is determined by the local county party.
Monaghan says those not registered as a Nebraska Democrat can do so online or the day of the Caucus at your meeting location. She says they will have forms in both English and Spanish.
Monaghan says the process is very similar to what happens in Iowa. There may be several rounds of voting until there is a majority that supports one candidate.
