An unlikely run in the Big East Tournament for the Creighton women has reached the championship game. The seventh seeded Bluejays posted their second upset in as many days with a 77-56 win over the three seed Seton Hall.
MC McGrory led Creighton with 23 points while Jade Owens chipped in with a career high 16 points.
“We don’t really feel like the underdogs”, said Owens. “We have felt like we could play with anyone in the conference all year. We have come out with a lot more confidence and are trying to show we are not a seven seed.”
The win for the Bluejays was their fourth straight and they will play fourth seeded St. John’s in tonight’s championship game. Creighton won at St. John’s 64-57 back on February 28 in their regular season finale.
“The fact that we played really well last weekend at Seton Hall and St. John’s was huge for us”, said Creighton coach Jim Flanery. “We have good players who have gotten better over the course of the year.”
Tip off for tonight’s championship game in Chicago is 7:00 p.m. The game will be televised by Fox Sports 1.
