Omaha Fire Department investigators are trying to determine what sparked this morning’s deadly house fire. Crews were called to 28th and Vinton Street at 4:45 a.m. after receiving a call that there were people trapped in the house. Battalion Chief Doug Krysl says when they arrived at the scene there were six children and two adults outside of the home. There were two people still trapped inside.
Battalion Chief Krysl says, “There was smoke coming out of the back of the house from the basement. Initial crews went into the basement through the back of the house. Two people were found in the basement by the initial crews. Both were transported in critical condition. The male patient is still listed as critical. The female adult was taken to University and is deceased.”
The identity of the victims is not yet known. The American Red Cross is assisting those displaced.
