A federal investigation has begun into the death of a worker at a western Nebraska ethanol plant.
62-year-old Charles Danielson fell more than 35 feet to his death last week while working as a contractor at Midwest Renewable Energy near Sutherland.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has announced it has opened an investigation into the death.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the worker who had been on the job for only a month,” said Darwin Craig, OSHA’s Acting Area Director in Omaha in a written statement. “OSHA will be conducting a thorough investigation to see if any violations of safety procedures contributed to this tragic incident. Falls remain the leading cause of death on the job for construction workers.”
OSHA says initial reports indicate Danielson was installing a platform when he fell.
Elite Ag Systems of Buffalo Lake, Minnesota managed the site.
