It looks like a good time to fish at many Nebraska State Lakes. Nebraska Game and Parks Commission spokesman Greg Wagner says they have been busy stocking lakes across the state. He says they will stock trout in about three dozen lakes statewide.
Wagner says crews stocked Mahoney, CenturyLink Lake and Fremont State Lake Number 2 yesterday and tomorrow they will stock lakes in Papillion and Lincoln. He says this is the best time to fish for trout as they love the cooler weather and will be very active.
Wagner says now is also the best time to head to central Nebraska to see the Sandhill Cranes. Wagner says, “The peak is about a week earlier than normal but now is the time to go see all the cranes between Grand Island and Kearney. More than 80% of thw world’s population of Sandhill Cranes will be in the area for the next few weeks.
