A newcomer to politics is excited to be running in the GOP primary election for the US House, District 2 in Nebraska. Retired US General Don Bacon is the former commander at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany, was in charge of three smaller commands, deployed four times to the Middle East and spent a year in Iraq. He says his military experience makes him an excellent candidate.
Bacon says, “Once elected i will be the most senior retired military person in the House. I’ve learned from my five times in command that leadership starts with a positive vision so I have a positive vision. I have principals and priorities and I think I articulate them. I’ve learned to build coalitions. I’ve talked to folks with various beliefs and backgrounds and you build a team. It starts with a positive vision. I think it also starts out with optimism and enthusiasm. These are things I’ve learned as a commander.”
Bacon is running against long time politician Chip Maxwell in the primary election and the winner will take on US Congressman Brad Ashford in the general election in November. Bacon and Maxwell will hold a forum tonight in Sarpy County. The two candidates are also scheduling a debate in late April.
