Nebraska-Kearney senior first baseman Kate Ruwe is chasing history as the softball season heads down the home stretch. The native of Blair, Nebraska, has hit 15 home runs this season, just two shy of the school’s single season record.
Ruwe had 17 homers in her career coming into this season and credits her increased power numbers and .486 average to experience and a change in approach.
“This year I really put a focus on not letting the little things get to me”, said Ruwe. “I have also focused on getting my hands through the ball and driving every ball up the middle.”
Ruwe says she is trying not to focus on the chase as the record nears but admits it can be difficult.
“I am trying not to think about it. I feel like everyone is talking about it but for myself I am trying not to think about it because that just adds more pressure.”
Ruwe and the Lopers return to action Wednesday afternoon when they visit Wayne State for a doubleheader.
