Nebraska-Kearney football coach Josh Lamberson plans to name a starter from a crowded field at quarterback at the end of spring drills. Stephen Worthing, Ryan McFarlin and Justin Roberts are battling to replace departed senior Bronson Marsh as the Loper’s starting signal caller.
“I think from a stability standout and going into the summer and having a leader at the spot we will name a starter”, said Lamberson. “I am not exactly sure when we are going to do that but I think it will be sooner rather than later.”
UNK was winless in Lamberson’s first season as coach and as a way to wipe the slate clean the Lopers did not have a depth chart heading into spring practice in hopes of ratcheting up the competition.
The Lopers will have a lot more depth next season after redshirting 38 players in 2015.
“We have gotten a really good idea of who is capable of what, who needs more work and who has exceeded expectations as well. I think we will have a much better idea of where we are at as a football team within each position group at the end of Saturday.”
Lamberson says Saturday’s Spring Game will feature the offense against the defense with a special scoring system.
