A six-month old Omaha child is in extremely critical condition after an incident Sunday evening near 24th and Maple Streets. Officer Phil Anson says officers were sent to a hospital regarding a near-drowning victim.
Officer Anson says the child’s father stated he came home from work around 11:45 p.m. to find his baby unconscious in the bathtub while under the care of another adult. The infant was taken by family members to a CHI hospital where the child was revived and then transported to Children’s Hospital and Medical Center. The baby is currently on life support and the injuries are probable to be life threatening.
Omaha police say there was also a two-year-old at the accident scene. That child is of no relation to the father of the injured infant and was placed with Child Protective Services. That child apparently was with the caregiver, 26 year old Crystal Potts. She was booked for felony child abuse and neglect. This is an ongoing investigation.
