Thunderstorms rumbled through south-central and southeastern Nebraska as predicted with some extremely large hail reported as well as high winds, but no tornadoes.
The National Weather Service reports hail and heavy rain fell last night and overnight.
Weather spotters reported one small tornado in rural Kansas as the storm moved north into Nebraska. Tornado warnings sounded in Nebraska, but no sightings were reported.
The Weather Service office in Valley reports seven inches of rain fell in the small town of Deshler in southeastern Nebraska. Emergency crews evacuated Parkview Haven Nursing Home.
Just across the state line, in the small Kansas town of Bremen, weather spotters reported hail the size of grapefruit, damaging roofs and breaking car windows. In Nebraska, weather spotters in Gage County reported egg-size hail fell in Odell.
The severe storms enveloped a large swath of middle America, from north Texas to Nebraska. Forecasters expect this slow-moving storm to exit the state by early this afternoon.
