Female gun ownership has soared 77% in the last seven years and women are the largest growing segment of this typically male dominated demographic. That is one of the reasons Patricia Harrold and others are establishing The Well Armed Woman Linoma Chapter for the Omaha metro area. She says when she first developed an interest in firearms there was a problem.
Harrold says, “What I found I was surrounded by men and it was kind of lonely We have some chapters in Lincoln and western Nebraska and I thought why don’t we have one in Omaha so we could bring firearm training, skill development, education and that sense of camaraderie and sisterhood. I took charge and formed a chapter here.”
Harrold says the landscape of firearm owners is changing. Gun ownership, which was typically male centered, is starting to open their doors to more women and this is one way to help clear that pathway. The Well Armed Woman Linoma Chapter will give women of all experience levels the opportunity to be introduced to important issues that include gun safety, handling skills and marksmanship.
The group is holding an open house Wednesday evening at Cabela’s at 12703 Westport Parkway in La Vista starting at 6:30. Women wanting more information can also log on to twawshootingchapters.org.
