The Omaha Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding a killer. 55 year old Barbara Williams was shot and killed Monday while standing in front of her apartment complex at 48th and Boyd Street in the north-central part of town.
Omaha Homicide Detective Larry Cahill says Williams was not the intended target. He says, “Our investigation shows that Barbara Williams was an innocent bystander in this shooting. This was a brazen act done in broad daylight in front of many witnesses.
Cahill says 40 or more people witnessed the shooting and none have come forward with information. He says, “I can understand why. I mean people have to live in this neighborhood and fear of reprisals is legitimate. I just want them to know we take our job seriously and we want to partner with them to keep the community safe.” Cahill says that is one reason they have Crime Stoppers where people can report crimes and remain anonymous and be eligible for a large reward if their information leads to an arrest.
Police say this suspect is a very dangerous individual and they are concerned there will be a repeat of what happened on Monday. A man was injured by gunfire around the same time Williams was shot and killed a few blocks away. He is expected to recover.
Omaha police did release a picture of the suspect’s vehicle.
