The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office reports just before 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 8th, deputies were dispatched to a car/train personal injury accident at County Road 3 and the Union Pacific Railroad crossing. This is about three and on-half miles west of North Bend just south of Highway 30.
The investigation shows an eastbound train was traveling about 45 MPH when it collided with a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup that was traveling southbound on County Road 3. The driver of the pickup, 65 year old Robert M. Conn of North Bend was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say Mr. Conn was not wearing a seatbelt and alcohol was not a factor. The railroad crossing is controlled by cross-bucks and a stop sign. All warning devices on the train engine were found to be in working order.
