The Midland baseball team plays for the Great Plains Conference Tournament title tonight, when the Warriors host Morningside.
Midland won the GPAC regular season title so no matter what happens in the championship game the Warriors will advance to the NAIA Tournament.
“We joke about how we are playing with house money with a national tournament bid wrapped up”, said Midland coach Chad Miller. “However, they are competitive by nature and they want to win and they want to play well as we head to the national tournament.”
Miller will send senior Josh Johnson (9-1) against the Mustangs and he also plans to use senior Justin Meyer (5-1).
After finishing third in the regular season race Morningside (42-14) needs a victory to clinch a spot in the NAIA Tournament. The teams split a regular season doubleheader.
“You think there would be no nerves or no pressure with a national tournament bid wrapped up but the reality is we are playing in front of our home crowd and we know that winning a conference tournament championship would be a tremendous accomplishment.”
