In wake of the severe weather, flooding has become a very real threat throughout Nebraska.
Heavy rain has soaked central to eastern Nebraska at the beginning of this week, saturating the ground and swelling river levels.
The National Weather Service upgraded a warning about the North Platte River near Mitchell from a risk of minor flooding to a risk of moderate flooding. The North Platte is expected to crest at around nine feet Saturday afternoon. Lewellen and Lisco expect minor flooding.
Warnings of possible minor flooding have been issued by the Weather Service for the Elkhorn River from Atkinson through O’Neill. The Missouri River is expected to overflow its banks in southeastern Nebraska, but flooding is anticipated to be minor.
Flood warnings have been issued for parts of Hamilton, Polk, and York Counties, where the Big Blue River is rising and expected to cause minor flooding.
