A Minnesota excavation company that was drilling in Omaha’s Old Market earlier this year is cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. U.S. Department of Labor’s Regional Director of Public and Media Relations Scott Allen says they also fined North Central Services of Bemidji.
Allen says, “OSHA did issue North Central Service one serious citation and proposed penalties of $4,900 for an incident that occurred several months ago.
North Central Services was drilling and boring through a sidewalk outside of the M’s Pub building at 422 S. 11th Street on January 9th when they hit a natural gas line. The gas leaked into the basement of that building causing an explosion and fire. The building was destroyed.
Allen says, “The company was responsible to ensure the gas line was properly located and avoided and that is why they received this citation because they did not follow OSHA standards and regulations in order to prevent this incident from happening.”
North Central Services has fifteen days to respond to the citation and penalties. The can request a meeting with OSHA or contest the findings of the report.
