A 31-year-old man shot seven times by an Omaha police officer has died.
The Omaha Police Department reports Joshua Beebee died at Nebraska Medical Center where he was taken in critical condition after the shooting.
According to police, citizens called shortly before 10 o’clock Friday morning, stating a man had been seen armed with a butcher knife at 163rd and West Maple Road. Another emergency call made only a few minutes later located the man at 165th and West Maple Road.
“Officers arrived. There was a short foot pursuit. An altercation. Shots were fired and the suspect was injured,” Gray told reporters at the scene this morning.
Medics performed CPR on Beebee prior to him being taken to the hospital in critical condition. No officers were injured.
Police say Beebee ran from officers through an open field before a squad car cut in front of him. Police says Beebee ran in front of the vehicle, then approached the driver’s side wielding an 11-inch knife. The officer shot him seven times at close range.
