An investigation of an officer involved shooting is underway in Omaha.
Police received a 911 call just before 9:42 a.m. regarding a man armed with a butcher knife at 163rd and West Maple Road. At 9:47 a.m. a second person called 911 saying there was a man armed with a knife at 165th and West Maple Road.
Captain Scott Gray says, “Officers arrived. There was a short foot pursuit. An altercation. Shots were fired and the suspect was injured. He was taken to UNMC squad Code 99 .”
Medics were seen performing CPR on the man prior to him being taken to the hospital in critical condition. No officers were injured. Crime tape surrounds the crime scene and Captain Gray says many of the businesses in that area have closed while the investigation continues.
