Memorial Day is the start of the summer travel season, and if you do not have a vacation idea, the Nebraska Tourism Commission wants to help.
Angela White, marketing manager for the Commission, says bike trails, literary tours, and sporting events are all happening this summer.
“I know people don’t necessarily think of Nebraska on the top of their tourism list,” White tells Nebraska Radio Network, “but it is a great place to go.”
The Commission staff just released a top ten list of big summer events.
“The Great American Comedy Festival is going on in Norfolk, June 15th through 18th, Nebraskaland Days is going on in North Platte, June 15th through 25th, and that’s four nights of rodeo and concerts,” White says. “Then we have the NCAA College World Series again this year, June 17th through 29th.”
White says there are hundreds of vacation options across Nebraska, from a weekend visit to a weeklong stay.
“Oregon Trail Days, if you want to get out in western Nebraska, goes on from July 7th through 10th, and that’s in Gering, and you can go to art shows, chili cook-offs, and car shows. It pays tribute to the Oregon Trail and the pioneers, so that’s a great event for families.”
Tourism is the third largest industry in Nebraska and brings in about $4.5 billion each year.
