UNO softball coach Jeanne Scarpello is retiring after 17 years on the job.
Scarpello is the program’s all-time leader in wins, compiling a career record of 684-261-1 in 17 seasons. In just her second season, she led the Mavericks to the NCAA Division II National Championship, part of a string of 12 straight NCAA Division II national tournament appearances between 2000 and 2011.
“I have loved the past 17 years as the head coach of the Mavericks, and I will always look back fondly on the great relationships I have forged during that time,” said Scarpello. “I will always be proud that I represented the crimson and black, and I will always be a fan.”
This past season, Scarpello was named the Summit League Coach of the Year, giving her a coach of the year award in every league in which she’s led the Mavericks. Omaha finished in second place in the Summit with a 12-5 record and earned a spot in the Summit Tournament in its first season of eligibility.
