The upsets continue at the College World Series. Andrew Beckwith tossed a complete game while scattering seven hits as Coastal Carolina stunned top seeded Florida 2-1.
“A lot of things did not go our way”, said Coastal Carolina coach Gary Gilmore. “I think everything I tried to get us to do backfired and thank goodness Beckwith picked us up and our infield defense was really good.”
TCU freshman Luken Baker slammed a three run homer in the ninth inning as the Horned Frogs rallied for a 5-3 victory over Texas Tech.
“They had been mixing fastballs and mostly working me away for majority of the game and I was thinking they may come inside so I was sitting on that with the count in my favor”, said Baker. “I got it and put a good swing on it.”
It is the third straight year that TCU has won an opening round game at the series. Action resumes this afternoon with the first elimination game matching Miami against UC-Santa Barbara.
