Today, Omaha marks the 10th anniversary of being smoke-free. Mark Welch with GASP (Group to Alleviate Smoking Pollution) Nebraska spearheaded the effort to get smoking banned in Omaha bars and restaurants. He now wants the Omaha City Council to pass another smoking ordinance.
Welch says, “Today we are announcing we are starting to work on a tobacco city parks and city property ordinance. We would like the city to pass an ordinance to make all city property tobacco free. We find the public supports this.”
Welsh says that includes parks and outside all city owned buildings. He is working to prevent smoking at Memorial Park during next week’s huge Bank of the West Celebrates America free concert featuring Kenny Loggins.
