JC Cloney tossed a complete game four-hitter as Arizona beat Coastal Carolina 3-0 in game one of the College World Series finals.
Cloney kept the Chanticleers off balance as he extended his scoreless innings streak at the College World Series to 16.
“I think it was establishing the fast ball on the inner half and outer half and then mixing some change ups in and throwing some other off speed stuff”, said Cloney. “You have got to give credit to the coaches for putting together the game plan.”
Coastal Carolina went down in order four times and did not have a runner advance to second base until the ninth inning.
“At the end of the day I have to tip my hat to that young man”, said Coastal Carolina coach Gary Gilmore. “He was the guy that was bigger than life today.”
Arizona can clinch the title with a victory, tonight, in TD Ameritrade Park. It would be the Wildcats’ second title in five years.
