The Lincoln Police Department has released the names of the two police officers placed on administrative leave after being involved in the shooting death of murder suspect 22-year-old Germichael Kennedy.
Kennedy was sought in the shooting death of 20-year-old Marlene Rashidi, a sophomore at the University of Nebraska at Kearney as well as the shooting and wounding of 23-year-old Dezarae Mann in the early morning hours Sunday.
Sergeant Mario Robinson and Officer Josh Atkinson confronted Kennedy near the scene of the fatal shooting. They say Kennedy threatened them with a weapon and refused to lower it prior to shooting him to death.
Robinson has served in the Lincoln Police Department for 22 years. Atkinson is an eight year veteran.
Both remain on administrative leave. Both are participating in the internal administrative investigation into the shooting, conducted by the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.
