Five people died in a multiple-vehicle crash that has closed portions of Interstate 80 in western Nebraska.
The Nebraska State Patrol preliminary reports indicate a semi tractor-trailer traveling west on I-80 apparently rear-ended a westbound van just before noon today near Brule in Keith County. The reports indicate at least two other vehicles were involved in the crash. At least one caught fire.
The patrol reports five confirmed fatalities. At least one other person was injured.
Both east and westbound lanes of I-80 have been closed to traffic. Vehicles are being diverted onto Highway 30 at Big Springs and Ogallala.
