Live horse racing returns to Omaha’s Horsemen’s Park for two days only. General Manager Mike Newlin says they have a big weekend planned and special events both days.
“The Voice” star Hannah Huston will be making an appearance for Friday’s opener. Newlin says Huston will be at Horsemen’s Park around 4:30 for pictures and will sing the “National Anthem” at 5:45. She will come out after the second race and sing “God Bless America”. There are five races Friday.
Newlin says there is a special event planned for Saturday. He says, “Before the first race we will honor fallen Omaha Officer Kerrie Orozco. We will have her family and friends here and we will take a moment of silence. Our announcer will read a statement in honor of Officer Orozco. We felt that with everything going on the country right now with law enforcement and other events we felt it was very important to show our respect to our local law enforcement. Kerrie offered her life to protect the city of Omaha and we feel it is important she is never forgotten.”
There will be seven races Saturday. Newlin says they expect up to 10,000 people to attend both days. Horsemen’s Park is located at 63rd and Q Street in Omaha. There are five races Friday and seven on Saturday. Horsemen’s Park is located at 63rd and Q Streets in Omaha.
