A freshman football player for Chadron State College has died.
The Chadron State College Sports Information office reports 20-year-old Eric Goll died after practice Thursday.
Goll, who is a native of Haines City, Florida, was taken from the practice field to Chadron Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead at approximately 12:30pm.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Goll’s family, teammates, and friends from the entire Chadron State College community,” said Chadron State College president Randy Rhine in a written statement released by CSC Sports Information.
“Eric was one of the happiest people I’ve ever met,” Head Football Coach Jay Long said in a written statement. “Our hearts are broken for Eric’s family. They have our condolences and our prayers.”
The Chadron Police Department is investigating the death. Chadron State College officials say the college will cooperate in the investigation.
Memorial service arrangements are pending.
