It has been seven years since the Nebraska State Fair moved from Lincoln to Grand Island. Executive Director Joseph McDermott says they went through a few growing pains but survived them very well.
McDermott says, “I don’t think anybody really knew what to expect and the first year we were there we were quite pleased we had 309,000 attend the Nebraska State Fair. Last year, 2015 which would of been the sixth fair, we had 352,000 people. We think we have a high quality fair and would love to see more Omahans come and pay us a visit.”
It is estimated that about 18% of the fair-goers are from the Omaha and Lincoln areas. They typically make it a day trip and spend approximately 5 1/2 hours at the fair.
McDermott says this year’s fair will feature many of the traditional exhibits that include 4-H competitions and displays along with the marathon, the midway and fun food. He is also very pleased with the concert line-up that includes Lady Antebellum, Thomas Rhett, Train, John Anderson, Toto and Nebraska’s own Hannah Huston.
The fair runs August 26th through September 5th.
