A three month roundup of violent criminals conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Omaha and Lincoln Police Departments and the U.S. Marshal’s Office resulted in the arrest of 268 gang members.
It was called Operation Triple Beam and Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer says they focused on catching the worst of the worst offenders.
Chief Schmaderer says, “We have a list of crimes, of targets and a list of individuals that we know are very violent in the city of Omaha. We have links and evidence of those individuals towards crimes. So when we initiate Operation Triple Beam it is those individuals that we go targeting. If they have a warrant we want to make sure we go pick them up. If we need to talk to additional witnesses involved in some of the crimes that they were involved in part of Triple beam will do that as well.”
Operation Triple Beam focused on the cities of Omaha and Lincoln between June 1st and September 1st. The Lincoln Police Department was invited to participate by the U.S. Marshals Office and Chief Jeff Bliemeister says they are thankful for the continued collaboration with that agency.
The special operation resulted in the arrest of 139 violent offenders, 110 gang members, 21 associated gang members and 24 sex offenders. The operation was funded through the U.S. Marshal Service with a grant through the Department of Justice.
