It appears a family of six died in a house fire in southeast Nebraska’s Cass County.
Authorities have not released a number, stating only that several people died in the fire about six miles northeast of Weeping Water.
Reports quote family members saying that Mike and Michelle Speer and their four young daughters Elli, Adilynn, Emma, and Anniston died in the fire.
An emergency call came in shortly after midnight Thursday, reporting a fire at 10014 McKelvie Road. A neighbor reported the fire and told the 911 operator that people were in the house at the time.
By the time firefighters arrived, the two-story house was completely engulfed in flames
The house was destroyed.
Fire departments from Weeping Water, Manley, and Avoca responded as well as firefighters from Nehawka, Murray, Union, Louisville, and Plattsmouth.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office and Cass County emergency management also responded.
Investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office remain at the scene. The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation will be time consuming.
