Mechanical problem suspected in fatal wreck near Richland

October 20, 2016 By Brent Martin

A mechanical problem with a sports utility vehicle apparently caused a fatal accident in Colfax County.

The Colfax County Attorney’s Office says the driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle while traveling east on U.S. 30 near Richland due to the mechanical problem. The SUV crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a car head-on, killing the driver of the car.

A passenger in the car was also injured and taken to a hospital. The driver of the SUV has been hospitalized as well.

The accident occurred early this morning about three miles east of Richland.

No names have been released.
