The U.S. Attorney for the District of Nebraska is preparing to ensure a free and fair election November 8th.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Laurie Kelly will lead the Nebraska District’s efforts for the Justice Department’s Election Day Program.
Kelly will be the District Election Officer and oversee the handling of complaints of election fraud and voting rights abuses.
The Program is designed to ensure public confidence in the integrity of the election process.
Federal law protects against crimes such as intimidating or bribing voters, buying and selling votes, and impersonating voters. It also covers election fraud, including altering vote tallies, stuffing ballot boxes, and marking ballots for voters against their wishes.
Preventing voter intimidation at the polls is another goal of the enforcement effort.
Kelly will be on duty while the polls are open. She can be reached by the public at the following telephone number: (402) 661-3700.
In addition to the U.S. Attorneys’ offices, the FBI will have special agents handling Election Day issues across the country. The local FBI field office can be reached by the public at (402) 493-8688.
Complaints about possible violations of the federal voting rights laws can be made directly to the Civil Rights Division’s Voting Section in Washington, D.C. by phone at 1-800-253-3931 or (202) 307-2767, by fax at (202) 307-3961, by email to email@example.com or by complaint form HERE.
