Two people have died, a third has been hospitalized with critical injuries after a head-on collision near Waverly.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says the cause of the wreck remains under investigation. A mini-van and a car crashed near McKelvie Road early Sunday evening.
The driver of the van, 44-year-old Jeffrey Goettemoeller of rural Waverly died at the scene.
The driver of the car, 29-year-old Steven Kriesen of Waverly, died at Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln where he was taken after the wreck.
Emergency crews rushed 38-year-old Jennifer Goettemoeller, Jeffrey’s wife, to Bryan West along with their two children.
Jennifer Goettemoeller is said to be in stable condition with critical injuries. The two children suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner says the investigation continues, telling news reporters during a Monday briefing that there are a lot more questions than answers at this time.
The preliminary investigation indicates the car driven by Kriesen crossed the center lane, but no reason has been pinpointed.
