A David City college student has reportedly been killed by a law enforcement officer in central Kansas.
Officials in Ellis County, Kansas will not confirm the identity of the victim, but family members report Kenton Kobza of David City, who attends Fort Hays State University, was shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy Tuesday morning.
The Ellis County Attorney reports a driver first complied with a traffic stop in Hays around 3:30 Tuesday morning, then unexpectedly sped off north reaching speeds of 100 mph on U.S. 183. The driver eventually lost control of his vehicle and spun off into a field.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation says the driver got out of his car and moved toward the deputy, who shot him with a stun gun. The two struggled. KBI says the deputy shot the man when he tried to get the deputy’s gun.
The KBI completed its investigation and submitted the results to the Ellis County Attorney.
