US Senator Ben Sasse was one of President-Elect Donald Trump’s earliest critics. The tables have turned a bit and now Senator Sasse is now the one getting criticism from some Trump supporters. Some of that criticism is directed at his ability to win another election. Senator Sasse says he isn’t spending a lot of time thinking about that right now. He adds he took an oath of office to preserve, protect and defend the US Constitution and represent Nebraskans interest and concerns in Washington.
Senator Sasse says he people during the Primary Election and General Election that he would not focus on re-election and would spend his time being faithful to the US Constitution. Senator Sasse says, “Second of all I have overwhelming positive feedback about folks who understand I don’t chiefly wear a partisan jersey. I’m the third most conservative guy in the US Senate on my voting record. I don’t tend to start thinking what label someone has on their jersey, is it a red or blue jersey or do the have an “r” or a “d”. My identities are dad and Christian and American and Nebraska football addict. I’m a Republican and happily a member of the party of Lincoln but partisanship is not near the core of what I exist to do.”
Senator Sasse says is glad the election is now behind us and the people sent an unmistakable message and every American owes it to President-Elect Trump to root for his success.
