United States Senator Deb Fischer declines to say whether she is under consideration for a cabinet post in the coming Trump Administration.
Fischer won’t directly answer the question of whether she has been contacted about the Transportation Secretary post.
“You know, I love the job I have. It is an honor to serve the people of Nebraska in the Senate,” Fischer tells Nebraska reporters during a conference call.
Fischer will only say her staff has been in touch with the transition team on transportation issues.
“I’m not trying to be coy here. I love my job,” Fischer says. “I don’t anticipate receiving that call from the administration. They know I love representing and fighting for the people of Nebraska in the Senate.”
Fischer has worked on transportation issues, both as a state senator and now as a member of the United States Senate. She serves on the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, serving as chair of the Subcommittee on Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety, and Security.
Fischer’s name has surfaced in national news media outlets speculating on who might be in the Trump Administration.
Fischer initially endorsed Florida Senator Marco Rubio in the Republican primary and even called on Trump to step aside in favor of Vice Presidential candidate Mike Pence after a video was released showing Trump making lewd comments about women. She eventually supported the Republican Party nominee.
