Officials are left to sift through the remains of what was the Wahoo State Bank.
Fire Friday likely destroyed the building.
When firefighters from a number of towns arrived on the scene at 5th and Linden Streets in Wahoo at 9 o’clock Friday morning they couldn’t see any smoke or any fire.
It was burning, though.
Wahoo Fire Chief Mark Meyer told reporters firefighters found a fire burning under a rubber membrane atop the roof. Meyer judged the roof too dangerous and pulled firefighters off of it. The roof eventually collapsed. Firefighters brought the fire under control at 1:30pm.
The bank suffered fire and water damage and might be a total loss.
The bank building was constructed in 1892.
