The embattled Nebraska Brand Committee has hired a new executive director. Bill Bunce has more than 25 years in the livestock industry, most recently as director of the New Mexico Livestock Board.
Barb Cooksley, president of the Nebraska Cattlemen Association, looks forward to working with Bunce.
Cooksley says, “From what I understand, he is a native Nebraska boy, so he’s coming home and has the experience and knows the volunteers on the Nebraska Brand Committee are working hard to move ahead.”
A recent audit found mismanagement of the brand board and Cooksley says the electronic upgrade that’s coming should help the panel resolve some of its problems.
“We certainly hope so,” she says. “The committee has set down with staff and worked to figure out what needed to be done and are working toward implementing it. We’ll need to give it a try and give it a chance.”
She says it’s good the board will have a fresh start with the new leader starting in January.
Bunce replaces Shawn Harvey who resigned in August following a state audit that uncovered several issues and concerns with the board and its management.
