The Nebraska State Patrol is watching to see if drivers are naughty or nice this holiday season. Sgt. Dan Klimek says they launched a new initiative, “Be Here for the Holidays” and they ask for voluntary compliance regarding all traffic and safety laws.
Sgt. Klimek says, “The whole idea is we want voluntary compliance. If I didn’t have to write a single ticket or investigate a single crash from here through the end of the holidays that would make my day.”
The Nebraska State Patrol is asking that everyone inside a vehicle wear their seatbelts. Studies show you are 50% more likely to survive a crash if you are wearing a seatbelt. Other tips include be prepared for snowy and icy weather and drive accordingly. Have an emergency travel kit in your vehicle in case you become stuck in the snow. Perhaps the most important tip is never to drive impaired or distracted.
The voluntary compliance runs through New Year’s Day.
