The head of Nebraska’s Department of Insurance (NDI) thinks the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will still be in place next year.
Bruce Ramge, NDI director, says those who need insurance or want to change existing plans should sign up during the open enrollment period underway now.
“It’s too early to know what will happen (with the Affordable Care Act), so we just operate under the assumption that those plans will be in effect and fully good for the 2017 year,” Ramge told reporters at a news conference.
President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, but there is no timeline.
So Ramge says Nebraskans need to meet the deadlines.
“In order to get coverage for the beginning of the month, enrollment needs to take place before December 15th for January 1,” he says. “If you enroll after December 15th through January 15th, your coverage will take effect on February 1.”
The open enrollment period ends January 31, 2017.
