Tennessee coach Butch Jones has found the right formula to get his team ready for a bowl game the past couple of the years and he hopes for more of the same when the Volunteers play Nebraska in the December 30 Music City Bowl in Nashville. Tennessee clobbered Iowa 45-28 in the 2015 TaxSlayer Bowl and closed last season by demolishing a 10-2 Northwestern team 45-6 in the Outback Bowl.
“Every bowl game is critical because it is all about momentum and finishing the right way”, said Jones. “It is also about your seniors and the way they leave the program.”
Tennessee opened 5-0 but fell out of contention in the SEC with consecutive losses to Texas A@M, Alabama and South Carolina. They closed the season with a 45-34 loss to Vanderbilt and look to bounce back against what Jones calls a tradition rich program.
“As we all know it stems from toughness”, added Jones. “They are a very tough football program and they are very good on defense and explosive on offense. It is going to be a great challenge for us.”
